4 years agoNew York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner will set the table for the offense as the leadoff man on Thursday against Indians' right-hander Aaron Civale. Gardner will get his first start of 2021 as the leadoff man, having previously slotted into the third, sixth, and ninth spots in the Yankee order. Manager Aaron Boone likely wanted to get a lefty bat towards the top of the lineup against Civale, who has pitched to a 2.18 ERA, though all three of his home runs this season came against left-handed hitters.--Tim Capurso
