Brian Griese To Become 49ers Quarterbacks Coach
3 years agoFormer Monday Night Football analyst Brian Griese is leaving ESPN to become the San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach, according to sources. Griese and head coach Kyle Shanahan have known each other for years, and Griese was the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Shanahan was on the coaching staff. Griese will be replacing Rich Scangarello, who became the offensive coordinator for the University of Kentucky earlier in the week. Griese will be stepping into a coaching job for the first time since he retired from the NFL in 2008. The 49ers are expected to trade quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason in order to give last year's first-rounder, Trey Lance, the full-time starting gig under center in 2022 and beyond. So Griese will play a big role in Lance's development heading into his sophomore season.
