Browns Expect Baker Mayfield To Be Their Starter In 2022
3 years agoCleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said that the team fully expects quarterback Baker Mayfield "to be our starter and bounce back" in 2022. Mayfield missed the Week 18 season finale and will have surgery next week to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder that he suffered in Week 2. The 26-year-old, who also dealt with knee and foot injuries in 2021, will likely be playing in his final season with the Browns next year unless he drastically turns things around. Mayfield completed 60.5 percent of his passes for just 7.2 yards per attempt, 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 14 games. If Mayfield were to turn things around in 2022, the Browns could place the franchise tag on him for 2023 in order to buy them more time to work out a contract extension. Heading into next season, Mayfield will likely be ignored in most fantasy leagues.
