Browns Place Franchise Tag On David Njoku
3 years agoThe Cleveland Browns placed the franchise tag on tight end David Njoku on Monday, according to a source. With Njoku expected to receive north of $10 million on the free-agent market, the Browns slapped the tag ($16.5 million for tight ends) on Njoku and plan to work out a long-term contract extension with him. The 25-year-old former first-round pick had 36 catches for 475 yards and four touchdowns on 53 targets in 16 games for the Browns last season and remains a big part of the team's offensive plans moving forward, even with Austin Hooper still in the mix. Njoku can be useful in the red zone for the Browns, but the presence of Hooper in this run-first offense makes him a touchdown-dependent, low-end TE1, at best, in fantasy.
