Buccaneers Defense Takes Field Saturday Without Carlton Davis
4 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis (groin) has been ruled out for Saturday's game versus the Lions, leaving an opening at the top corner spot for the Buccaneers Defense. Davis made a season-high nine tackles last week prior to his departure due to the groin ailment, but Ryan Smith is now expected to step into a larger role in Davis' absence. With Tampa Bay losing their top corner, Marvin Jones Jr. is expected to have added appeal in the passing game for the Lions. The Buccaneers' defensive unit is a toss-up to be utilized during season-long championship matchups, but without Davis in the mix, they may be landing on the wrong side of sit/start depending on league size and the other options available.
