Buccaneers Officially Tag Chris Godwin Tuesday
3 years agoThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially placed the franchise tag on wide receiver Chris Godwin on Tuesday, according to a source. The Buccaneers were hoping to sign Godwin to a long-term contract extension by the tag deadline on Tuesday, but it didn't come to pass. The franchise tag will give the two sides more time to work on a new deal. The 26-year-old pass-catcher was limited to 14 games last year due to a torn ACL in his knee, but he still managed to post a career-high 98 receptions on 127 targets for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns. Godwin could play on the tag for the second straight season if a long-term deal isn't worked out, which would cost the Bucs $18.419 million. He has posted 1,000-yard seasons in two of the last three years, but unless Tom Brady comes out of retirement, Godwin will be looking at a downgrade at QB.
