Bucs Would Prefer Long-Term Deal With Chris Godwin
3 years agoThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers would ideally prefer reaching a long-term deal with impending free-agent wide receiver Chris Godwin rather than using the franchise tag on him. A long-term deal will be complicated due to Godwin's ACL injury, but it would allow them to use the franchise tag on another free agent like cornerback Carlton Davis. Godwin had surgery to fix the ACL and MCL in his right knee in early January, but he will still be one of the top available pass-catchers if he makes it to free agency next month. The 25-year-old put up his second 1,000-yard receiving season in 2021 in just 14 games, catching a career-high 98 passes on 127 targets while scoring five touchdowns. If he returns to Tampa, his fantasy ceiling won't be nearly as high with quarterback Tom Brady now retired.
