3 years agoWashington Nationals right-hander Cade Cavalli was sent to the minor leagues on Saturday, but the Nationals expect their top pitching prospect to be up in the major leagues at some point in 2022. Cavalli could use a bit more minor league seasoning after posting a 14.04 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in just 8 1/3 innings over three appearances (one start) in Grapefruit League action this spring. The 23-year-old will begin the year with Triple-A Rochester after posting a 3.36 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while striking out 175 and walking 60 in 123 1/3 innings over 24 starts for High-A Wilmington, Double-A Harrisburg and Rochester last year. Cavalli will have to improve the 13.2% walk rate he had at Triple-A before the Nats feel he's ready to pitch in D.C.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
