4 years agoRight-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill was dealt to the Cleveland Indians by the San Diego Padres on Monday as part of the deal that brought Mike Clevinger to San Diego. Quantrill, the Padres first-round pick in 2016 and former top-100 MLB Pipeline prospect, did not have a spot in the Padres deep rotation and had been relegated to the Padres' bullpen in 2020. Over his career, Quantrill has started 19 games and made 14 relief appearances. He owns a career 4.79 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 120 1/3 innings pitched. This season, Quantrill has posted a 2.60 ERA and 1.33 WHIP to go with 18 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings pitched. The pedigree is there and, if Quantrill can lock down a spot in the Indians' rotation, he is worth a look in mixed leagues (and certainly AL-only leagues) where he is still available. This move to Cleveland should boost Quantrill's fantasy value now that he has the opportunity to potentially enter and remain in a starting rotation.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
