Cal Quantrill Spells Joey Lucchesi, Earns Victory

4 years agoSan Diego Padres pitcher Cal Quantrill collected a victory in relief Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Starter Joey Lucchesi meandered through 3 2/3 innings, yielding two earned runs and six baserunners before being yanked after 61 pitches. Quantrill spelled him and completed 1 1/3 scoreless frames, permitting a hit and walk apiece with a strikeout. The duo of Luchessi and Quantrill played exactly as telegraphed throughout summer camp, putting a serious dent in Joey Fuego’s fantasy viability if he can’t complete five innings.
