Caleb Smith Highlights Trade Group Acquired By D-backs

4 years agoLeft-handed pitcher Caleb Smith is the prized acquisition in the Starling Marte swap between the Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks. After Arizona brought aboard former Marlins starter Zac Gallen and watched him blossom, the hope is that Smith can do much of the same, having been out of the mix for most of 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak inside of the Miami organization. Smith yielded a National League-high 33 home runs last year, but he delivered 10 K/9 during his 45 starts with the Marlins since 2018. Leaving Marlins Park will hamper some of his long-term intrigue, but Chase Field has proven to not be as explosive of a hitter’s yard as many have perceived.--Jesse Borek
