6 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton passed for 84 yards, completing six passes on nine attempts while also adding three yards on the ground on a single rushing attempt. With it being the first preseason game, Newton wasn't expected to be in the game for too long. In the limited time that he was on the field, he looked impressive in the pocket. After Newton, backups Garrett Gilbert and Taylor Heinicke stepped in, both throwing for a touchdown. Heinicke was more efficient and looked composed, throwing for 121 yards on seven completions. While the backup battle is ongoing, Newton is the clear starter in this offense.--Richard King - RotoBaller
