4 years agoNew England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton (COVID-19) did not appear in line to play Monday versus Denver as he works his way back from a positive COVID-19 test. But in the wake of the decision to postpone the contest until next Sunday due to new COVID-19 positives within the Patriots’ organization, what once appeared to be a game started by Jarrett Stidham, may be started by Newton after all. The duo of Stidham and Brian Hoyer underwhelmed mightily in pinch duty versus Kansas City earlier in the week, leaving a chasm at the QB1 slot in New England. In an albeit small sample size, Newton has completed a career-high 68.1 percent of his passes this year, while accounting for six touchdowns (four rushing, two passing) in three games. With the Denver defense slammed with injuries, Newton, should he prove healthy, will regain much of his previous fantasy appeal for next Sunday’s matchup.--Jesse Borek
