Cameron Brate Reworks His Contract
3 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate agreed to a reworked contract on Wednesday at two years and $8 million, according to a source. Quarterback Tom Brady will keep a key pass-catcher for 2022 after fellow tight end O.J. Howard left in free agency to join the Buffalo Bills. Brate's restructure lowered his salary cap hits in each of the next two years. The 30-year-old will certainly have a bigger role next year with Howard out of the picture, but it seems likely that Rob Gronkowski will return as well now that Brady is out of retirement. Brate is a nice red-zone presence and would be a strong handcuff option for the oft-injured Gronk if he re-signs in Tampa. Brate finished with 30 catches (57 targets) for 245 yards and four touchdowns in 17 regular season games (three starts) in 2021.
