3 years agoSan Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval picked up his first career save in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks. With Jake McGee (oblique) on the injured list, the closer role has typically been assigned to Tyler Rogers. However, Rogers came in to pitch the eighth inning and allowed two runs, leaving the Giants only up by two heading into the ninth. Doval then entered the game, got a first-out ground out, allowed a double, but then got the next two hitters out, including a strikeout to end the game. The 24-year-old rookie has shown good stuff this season, compiling a 3.38 ERA and 31.6% strikeout rate with five wins and five holds. His fastball velocity and slider movement make him a viable candidate to be an impact relief arm for the Giants, but he simply has too many established arms ahead of him at this point to see routine save opportunities.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller
