Cardinals Could Look To Trade Jose Martinez

6 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals first baseman Jose Martinez has found himself on the bench in each of the last two games after manager Mike Matheny was fired, as new manager Mike Shildt has preferred better defensive lineups. As a result, Martinez could be a candidate to be traded to an American League club where he could serve as a designated hitter. The Cardinals are in need of left-handed relievers and a left-handed position player. Martinez is slashing .299/.365/.478 with 13 homers and 56 RBI, so he's definitely been an asset to his fantasy owners, but the drop in playing time will make his value go down, and he may be hard to keep in shallow mixed leagues if this continues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
