7 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals have emerged as a suitor for Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson because of injuries to Kolten Wong and Jedd Gyorko this week, according to sources. They aren't desperate to add him, though, since they can move infielder Matt Carpenter to third and use Jose Martinez and Matt Adams at first base. The 32-year-old Donaldson has been limited to 36 games this year, mainly with a calf injury that has kept him out for three months. He's posted his worst OPS (.757) since 2012. The Indians have also been linked to Donaldson, but one source said the chances of him being dealt there are "slim." The Blue Jays relationship with Donaldson has deteriorated, so they are motivated to move him before the deadline on Friday at midnight eastern time. Donaldson's health will dictate how productive he is when he returns to a major league diamond, but he can still help owners in all leagues when he's back.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
