6 years agoSan Diego Padres second baseman Carlos Asuaje reached base in all four plate appearances, scoring two runs in Thursday’s victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Asuaje was a jolt for the sputtering Padres offense, recording a triple, single and two walks. Prior to his call-up on July 1, the 26-year-old infielder was slashing .338/.408/.492 in Triple-A El Paso. Asuaje is 5-for-7 with a 4:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio since his return. The Padres have been getting minimal production from second baseman Jose Pirela (.658 OPS, -0.6 WAR) and Asuaje deserves more opportunities to test the sustainability of his improved plate approach. For now, consider him a fantasy long shot but if he continues getting on base, Asuaje could be a keystone candidate in deep and NL-only leagues.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
