Carlos Carrasco Still On Track For Opening Day
4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (elbow) threw a 20-pitch live batting practice session on Thursday. Following his session, Mets manager Luis Rojas stated that the team believes Carrasco will be ready for his first rotation turn in April as long as he remains on track with his progression. This is obviously good news given the recent uncertainty as to whether Carrasco will be ready by Opening Day, especially since he was a late arrival to camp. If he has no setbacks during the remainder of spring training, Carrasco will likely avoid opening the season on the injured list. In 2020 with Cleveland, Carrasco posted a 2.91 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and struck out 82 batters in 62 IP over 12 starts. Provided he remains healthy, Carrasco should provide managers with 170-190 IP, elite ratios, and more than 200 strikeouts in 2021. Carrasco projects as a high-end fantasy SP2 for the upcoming campaign.
