Carlos Hyde Expected To Mix In On Early Downs
3 years agoJacksonville Jaguars running back Carlos Hyde, who played under Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer at Ohio State, was signed to a two-year, $6 million contract this offseason. Despite James Robinson's success last year and the arrival of first-round rookie RB Travis Etienne, Meyer wants the veteran Hyde to be a big part of the early-down running game. Meyer was quoted as saying that he sees "Carlos and James [as] the 1-2, downhill, powerful running backs." Meyer also noted that he sees Travis Etienne as the third-down back, so Hyde likely won't produce much in the passing game. Hyde comes into the season as a low-end RB5, but should James Robinson miss time he would be in line for significant touches on the ground in what figures to be a balanced offense. As far as insurance policies go, Hyde is a lot cheaper than most, but his upside is likely capped at the low-end RB2 level even if James Robinson were to go down with an injury.
