4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher Carlos Martinez (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list prior to Thursday’s contest versus Milwaukee due to a strained left oblique. After having delivered a 9.90 ERA in five regular-season starts, it was murky as to whether Martinez would make St. Louis’ potential playoff roster, but the injury further complicates that possibility. Johan Oviedo was recalled to take Martinez’s spot on the active roster, with the caveat that the 22-year-old may be called upon to start one of the season’s final games. As for Martinez, whether the club shifts him back to relief in 2021 after his disastrous results this season remains to be seen.--Jesse Borek
