Carson Wentz Stands Out At OTAs
2 years agoNew Washington Commanders starting quarterback Carson Wentz took his first practice reps with the team during its first on-field workouts on Tuesday. He connected with the overall No. 16 pick in the draft, wide receiver Jahan Dotson, as well as second-year wide receiver Dyami Brown, for solid gains. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen offered his praise regarding the impact Wentz is making right from the start. "He's everything you want from your starting quarterback," Allen said. "He's a leader. He talks to every guy on the team, not just the receivers or the running backs or the offensive line. He talks to the defensive guys, and he wants to be here, and he wants to win. Really not much more I could ask from him." Ben Standig of The Athletic reported how Wentz immediately stood out relative to last year's starter, Taylor Heinicke, due to his size and arm strength, while hinting that his velocity on both deep routes and underneath throws should expand the offensive playbook.
