4 years agoBaltimore Orioles pitcher Cesar Valdez ended last year saving games for the club but he's been moved to a multi-inning relief role this year. The veteran of numerous Mexican League seasons appeared in nine games for the Orioles last season and saved three games while racking up a K-BB of 12-3 in 14.1 innings. The 36-year-old was predominantly a starter before last season so this moves him into a more familiar role by throwing multiple innings per game. His profile is unique in that his fastball averaged less than 86 mph and he threw his changeup 83% of the time in 2020. With an unproven bullpen around him, though, Valdez could quickly slide back into the closer's role if Tanner Scott and others struggle.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
