3 years agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Charlie Morton, whose solid outing Tuesday against the Mets was spoiled by the bullpen, is pitching well and lines up for good matchups Sunday and next week against the last-place Miami Marlins. He allowed three earned runs against New York on five hits while striking out seven across six innings in his last start and didn't factor into the decision. The 37-year-old right-hander is 7-3 on the year with a 3.74 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He's improved each month and was 3-1 with a 2.73 ERA in June. Morton and the Braves host Miami and Zach Thompson on Sunday. He lines up for a slightly tougher matchup against the Marlins next Saturday, facing Trevor Rogers on the road, but he still should be started given his impressive results.--Josh Friedman
