Charlie Morton To Start Sunday Against Rays
3 years agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Charlie Morton (leg) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Morton fractured his fibula in November in Game 1 of the World Series when he was hit in the leg by a comebacker. The 38-year-old veteran right-hander had a nice 3.34 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 216 strikeouts in 185 2/3 innings over 33 starts in his first year in Atlanta in 2021. Morton had surgery to fix his broken leg and should have enough time to be ready to rejoin the team's starting rotation to open the 2022 season, although he'll likely be on a short leash in the first month of the season.
