Chase Claypool Gives Big Ben Another Weapon
5 years agoThe Pittsburgh Steelers placed a lot of faith in rookie Chase Claypool when they used the No. 49 overall pick in the 2020 draft to select the Notre Dame wideout. By selecting Claypool, Pittsburgh left intriguing skill position players on the board, such as quarterback Jalen Hurts and running backs J.K. Dobbins and Cam Akers. According to ESPN's Brooke Pryor, adding weapons around quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was a focal point of Pittsburgh's 2020 draft strategy. Claypool is an interesting size/speed prospect as he stands 6'4" and runs a 4.42 40-yard dash. He will add a massive target and catch radius to the team's passing attack. The Steelers are expected to use Claypool right away in the red zone and on the outside, which should help JuJu Smith-Schuster. Smith-Schuster struggled on the outside in 2019 but Claypool's addition will allow him to shift back to the slot, where he had a dominant 2018 campaign. Claypool makes for an interesting target in dynasty rookie drafts as early as the second round.
