6 years agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Chris Archer (3-5) went six strong innings, allowing a single tally on six hits and two walks while also fanning six in Thursday's 6-1 victory over the Braves. Archer, who threw 67 of his 97 pitches for strikes, was replaced by reliever Francisco Liriano in the seventh after permitting both batters that he faced in the top of the inning to reach base. The performance gave Archer his second straight victory and also marked the second consecutive game that he has thrown at least six innings and struck out six or more batters. It was the first time since April 13 that the 30-year-old right-hander has limited the opposing team to one or fewer runs. However, Archer did surrender a home run to Freddie Freeman in the opening frame, marking the seventh straight game that he has surrendered a long ball and the 11th time for the season.--Daniel Benjamin
