Chris Bassitt Working On New Slider Grip
4 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Chris Bassitt is working on a new slider to try and build on his career year in 2020. In the shortened campaign, Bassitt went 5-2 with 55 strikeouts, a 2.29 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in 63 innings. According to Statcast, Bassitt only threw 25 sliders last year, but he has been working on the pitch and hopes to use it more often this season. He'll need a new weapon to replicate his success last season, as a 4.46 SIERA implies his ERA is due for some regression. Throw in a career strikeout rate of just 20.2 percent, and Bassitt's top-200 average draft position seems a bit generous. Bassitt is a solid arm to start in fantasy when he has a good matchup, but the lack of strikeouts limits his overall upside.
