Chris Paddack Embracing Analytics To Improve Fastball
4 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Chris Paddack recognizes the need to improve his fastball effectiveness this season. The 25-year-old followed up a sensational rookie campaign in 2019 with a disappointing 4.73 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 59 frames (12 starts) last year. After diving into the numbers, Paddack realized his spin rates fell dramatically and dedicated the offseason to rediscovering his old mechanics. Paddack is currently going in the mid rounds with a 111 ADP as an SP3/4. Although still just a two-pitch starter, a decent heater would certainly complement his elite changeup. If he can find a reliable third pitch, Paddack holds clear upside at his current price.
