Chris Paddack Squanders Solid Start By Unraveling Late
4 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Chris Paddack suffered his third loss Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, yielding five runs (three earned) over 5 ⅓ innings. The box score won't show it, but the outing was Paddack's finest of the season. He was mostly cruising through five frames before being left in a couple batters too long, culminating in a two-run job by D-Backs catcher Carson Kelly to end the night on an extra sour note. The 25-year-old threw 95 pitches, fanning five while permitting six hits and walking none. He owns a pedestrian 5.40 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 8.5 K/9 through five starts. No longer a must-hold in shallow fantasy leagues, Paddack draws the Pittsburgh Pirates at home next Monday to kickoff a two-start week.
