Chris Sale Dominates Rangers, Bullpen Blows It
6 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale finished seven innings, allowing one unearned run, on just three hits, while striking out 10 and walking one in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Rangers. Boston led 2-1 in the seventh, so Sale was in line for the victory when he exited the game. However, Matt Barnes picked up his fourth blown save this season after allowing two runs in the ninth. Nonetheless, Sale was his normal self, pumping 67 strikes in 99 pitches, including 14 swinging strikes. He relied heavily on his fastball and slider, throwing them 75% of the time. The lefty hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 16 innings pitched, with a 22/1 K/BB. Sale will look to continue the scoreless streak into a road matchup with the Orioles on Saturday, where he will surely be the top pitcher in DFS slates.
