2 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (wrist) underwent season-ending surgery on Monday after injuring his wrist during a bicycle accident on Saturday. The surgery was officially described as an open reduction and internal fixation of a right distal radius (wrist) fracture. Sale is expected to be ready for the start of spring training next year. The 33-year-old southpaw got a late start to the season while dealing with a rib-cage injury, then he needed surgery to fix a broken left pinkie finger that was hit by a line drive in just his second start of the year. Since 2020, Sale has made just 11 starts for Boston due to an assortment of injuries. It's good news that he's expected to be ready next spring, but he's becoming an extreme injury risk at this stage of his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
