3 years agoBoston Red Sox second baseman Christian Arroyo (hand) will play shortstop on Friday in a spring game. Arroyo was scratched from the Grapefruit League game against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday with a sore right hand, but the injury is minor in nature. The 26-year-old should be fine for Opening Day unless he suffers a setback. With Xander Bogaerts entrenched at shortstop and new acquisition Trevor Story set to play second base in 2022, Arroyo will serve as a utility infielder in Boston. In 57 games (181 plate appearances) for the Red Sox last year, Arroyo hit .262/.324/.445 with a career-high six home runs, 25 RBI and 22 runs scored.
