Clarke Schmidt Makes MLB Debut Friday During Doubleheader

4 years agoNew York Yankees right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt has been summoned from the club’s alternate training site to start the second game of Friday’s doubleheader against the Orioles. Schmidt, the Yankees’ No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has made only three starts at Double-A before getting the call, but with the team pressed for starting help, he was viewed as an upside choice to make his debut. It appears that Schmidt will make just one start, but there’s always the possibility that he sticks around with a strong showing. For now, he’s an arm to monitor ahead of 2021, although check back to see if New York opts to give him another start.--Jesse Borek
