2 years agoNew York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes managed to pick up his 13th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Athletics despite odd circumstances. Holmes entered to pitch the ninth inning up 2-0. He struck the first two hitters out, but a runner then reached on catcher's interference and advanced to second on a stolen base. Holmes then allowed back-to-back singles, one of which brought an unearned run in, but he managed to stop things there with a groundout. Holmes has been fantastic for the Yankees this season, converting all but one save opportunity with a 9.59 K/9 rate, 1.26 BB/9 rate, and 0.50 ERA. Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) is expected to rejoin the team in a few weeks, but Holmes has pitched too well to be cast aside by fantasy managers, even when Chapman does return.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller
