5 years agoPittsburgh Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker has struggled all season long at the plate, but for one night all was well. The 22-year-old rookie, who began the game with just four hits in his last 41 at-bats, went 2-for-2 with a run scored in Wednesday's 7-2 victory over the Reds. He entered the game at short in the bottom of the sixth inning when reliever Francisco Liriano replaced right-hander reliever Richard Rodriguez with two outs. Tucker subsequently led off the top of the seventh and slammed Reds relief pitcher Michael Lorenzen's first pitch for a double. While Tucker has shown some power potential with seven of his 17 hits going for extra bases, the former first-round draft selection has struggled to make contact, striking out once every three at-bats.--Daniel Benjamin
