Commanders Expected To Pick Up Montez Sweat's Option
3 years agoThe Washington Commanders are expected to pick up the fifth-year option for defensive end Montez Sweat on Wednesday, according to a source. It's not a surprise that the Commanders are picking up his option, but teams have until next Monday to pick up options for 2019 first-round picks. Once the move is official, Sweat will be guaranteed an $11.5 million salary for the 2023 season. Washington could also work out a long-term extension with the 26th overall pick from 2019, but wide receiver Terry McLaurin is likely more of a priority for the team. Sweat played in every game in his first two seasons but was limited to 10 contests last year due to injuries. He finished with 24 tackles (13 solo), three tackles for loss, 13 QB hits, five sacks and three forced fumbles.
