3 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes threw seven scoreless innings against the Orioles on Wednesday. He didn't earn the win, but he allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out eight batters. This was an important result from the 27-year-old after he gave up three runs over five innings on Opening Day. Outside of a 90th-percentile whiff rate, Burnes has posted relatively mediocre advanced metrics through his two starts. There's reason to believe that could change, though. His Baseball Savant profile lit up bright red like a stoplight last season, with his worst metric being 81st-percentile fastball velocity. Translation: Burnes is a dominant pitcher with high-quality stats.
