Corbin Burnes Shows Out In First Start
6 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes nearly set a franchise record in his first start against the St. Louis Cardinals, whiffing 12 batters in just five innings while throwing 87 pitches. Burnes worked primarily out of the bullpen last season, but he looks like a quick riser for fantasy purposes. He struck out the side in both the second and third innings, and he struck out nine consecutive batters to match a franchise record set by Bob Gibson in 1984, although that pitcher was not the St. Louis Cardinals great, but another of the same name. Burnes will be a super popular addition off the waiver wire this week. His next start is set for Saturday opposite Cole Hamels and the visiting Chicago Cubs.
