Corey Knebel Notches First Save Of Season
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies reliever Corey Knebel got his first save as a Philly in the 4-2 victory against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. He allowed an unearned run in one inning while adding a strikeout and walk. It was Knebel's second appearance of the campaign, appearing in the ninth inning of a four-run game during Friday's contest. The 30-year-old is at the top of the Phillies closer depth chart after a successful 2021. Over 25.2 IP with the Dodgers, he posted a 2.45 ERA, 29.7 K%, and 0.97 WHIP. But, he missed more than three months while on the shelf and has a lengthy injury history, pitching just 39 innings across the past three seasons. He'll look to pitch his first full season since 2017 for a club that is need of a lockdown reliever. He's off to a good start, and this save looks to solidify his role as the top option in the bullpen.
