Cubs Acquire Andrew Chafin From D-backs
4 years agoThe Chicago Cubs have added left-handed pitcher Andrew Chafin to their bullpen mix just prior to the Trade Deadline in a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Chafin is currently on the injured list due to a sprained finger on his pitching hand, with the hope that he could return relatively soon. The southpaw, who has spent the entirety of his career with Arizona, owns an 8.10 ERA this season, but has compiled 10 strikeouts in 6 ⅔ frames. While left-handed hitters have produced an OPS that is 80 points lower throughout Chafin’s career, both have produced a sub-.700 OPS, a vital stat with the three-batter minimum now in effect. Despite the Cubs’ bullpen woes, Chafin likely doesn’t have a path to the closer’s role, capping his season-long intrigue.
