Cubs Activate Jason Heyward, Demote Greg Deichmann
3 years agoChicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward (finger) has been activated from the 10-day injured list. Heyward was placed on the injured list on August 6 with left index finger inflammation, but the veteran didn't miss too much time and is ready to rock and roll on Sunday afternoon. Heyward is one of the few veterans left on the rebuilding Cubs roster and has had a dismal season at the plate with a .198 batting average to go along with six home runs and 22 RBI. Despite the weak stats, he is a favorite of manager David Ross and is likely to get a fair amount of playing time throughout the rest of the season. To make room on the roster for Heyward, the Cubs have demoted rookie outfielder Greg Deichmann. Deichmann was acquired from the Oakland Athletics for relief pitcher Andrew Chafin on July 26 and has struggled since his promotion to the Cubs on August 6. Deichmann was just 4-for-23 with one RBI during his brief stint and both him and Heyward should be avoided in all formats.
