7 years agoBoth fighting for starting spots, San Diego Padres pitchers Jordan Lyles and Matt Strahm were rocked in Thursday's spring training game against the Cubs. Lyles, who started, was pulled before he recorded an out in the second and gave up five earned runs. Strahm pitched a solid inning but struggled in his second. He left the game after 1 1/3 innings and was ultimately tagged with four earned runs. Lyles (12.60 ERA) and Strahm (19.29 ERA) now have nosebleed ERAs this spring. Manager Andy Green was more constructive on Strahm's outing, who made his first multi-inning appearance in two years. Strahm (3.81 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 10.6 K/9) will likely start the year from the bullpen. Lyles (5.43 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 6.2 K/9) now has an uphill climb if he wants to crack the starting five.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
