Dalton Schultz A Candidate For The Franchise Tag
3 years agoDallas Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz is coming off of a breakout season in 2021 in which he caught 78 passes for 808 yards and eight touchdowns. The Cowboys have a tough salary cap situation and a bunch of free agents to address. Dallas probably will not be able to pay the former fourth-rounder his full value while addressing other free agents like pass-rusher Randy Gregory. The Cowboys could choose to use the franchise tag on Schultz, which would cost just under $11 million in 2022. It's likely less than what he could get on the open market, but the tag for Gregory or wide receiver Michael Gallup would be more expensive. The 25-year-old Schultz could be even better next season if he sticks with the Cowboys and receiver Amari Cooper leaves.
