Daniel Bard Allows Two Runs In Loss
3 years agoColorado Rockies relief pitcher Daniel Bard took the loss on Thursday when he allowed two runs on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts in a 3-0 loss to the Padres. Bard entered the ball game in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Rockies trailing 1-0. He was tasked with keeping the game close but couldn't get the job done. He had his work cut out for him as he had to face the heart of the San Diego lineup. He walked Tommy Pham before striking out Fernando Tatis Jr. and getting Manny Machado to pop out. Jake Cronenworth made him pay, though, as he swatted a two-run blast to pad San Diego's lead. Bard took the loss and raised his season ERA to 4.32 to go along with a 1.56 WHIP and 55:21 K/BB ratio over 41 2./3 innings. The Rockies just traded away Mychal Givens so the closer gig should remain his down the stretch.
