3 years agoColorado Rockies right-hander Daniel Bard nailed down his ninth save of the season on Monday when he allowed two runs on two hits with a strikeout over one inning in a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres. Starting pitcher Austin Gomber was brilliant on Monday, tossing eight scoreless innings so Bard was the only reliever to make an appearance. He entered in the ninth inning to protect a 3-0 lead and ran into trouble pretty quickly. After striking out Jurickson Profar he allowed a double to Tommy Pham and a two-run homer to Trent Grisham. He was able to settle and record the next two outs to lock up the save and preserve the win for Gomber. Bard has now converted his last six save opportunities and has nine total on the season. He has a 4.15 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and 36:11 K/BB ratio over 26 innings.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
