Daniel Hudson, Tanner Rainey Struggle Through Spring
4 years agoWashington Nationals relief pitchers Daniel Hudson and Tanner Rainey, both of whom are near the top of the team's bullpen depth chart, both had difficult spring trainings. Hudson allowed three home runs in 5 2/3 innings while Rainey walked four batters in 2 1/3. Tiny samples, of course, and Rainey was strong in 2020 with a 32-7 K-BB ratio. Hudson, who picked up the save in Game 7 of the 2019 World Series, did not have a good 2020, struggling with both control (11 walks) and homers (six) in 20 2/3 innings. Brad Hand is the Nationals' closer but if he falters, expect Rainey to take the job before Hudson. However, neither Hudson nor Rainey should be rostered yet in standard leagues regardless.
