7 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Daniel Mengden pitched an absolute gem in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Diamondbacks. The righty gave up no runs and only two hits and no walks with five strikeouts over nine innings. Mengden has been outstanding this season, posting a 5-4 record with a 2.85 ERA, 43 strikeouts, and only six walks in 66 1/3 innings pitched. The 25-year-old seems to have broken out as a control specialist, boasting a rate of 0.81 walks per nine innings and 0.81 home runs per nine innings. Mengden will look to keep things rolling on Thursday against the Rays.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller
