Darwin Thompson Goes From Sleeper to Asleep
5 years agoA sixth-round pick out of Utah State, speedster Kansas City running back Darwin Thompson's stock took a big hit when the Chiefs signed former Buffalo running back LeSean McCoy to a one-year contract on Saturday night. Thompson was the third-string running back but had still garnered a lot of preseason hype as he carries a skillset preferable to Andy Reid and his high-octane offense. A tough, elusive runner - rushing for 765 yards after first-contact in his final year of college - Thompson is an excellent pass-catcher with big-play ability, which led him to rise to a 91 ADP in NFBC over the last 200 drafts. And his owners were even more hyped after backup Carlos Hyde was traded to the Texans on Saturday morning, seemingly solidifying his role as the primary backup. But the hype-train crashed later that night with the McCoy signing signaling that the Chiefs don't yet see Thompson as a full-time backup, leaving him more as a change-of-pace option to start the season. Thompson can still be held in deeper leagues, at least until we see how his usage is to start the season, but can be sent to the wire in shallow leagues.
