4 years agoChicago Cubs manager David Ross has named infielder David Bote his starting second baseman to open the 2021 season. Bote beat out Nico Hoerner who had a very impressive spring and will get everyday at-bats in Triple-A to open the season. Bote will be backed up by veteran Eric Sogard to open the season, but he shouldn't be too much of a threat for Bote for now. Bote has hit .302 in the Cactus League with three home runs, eight RBI and an impressive .990 OPS. This will be the first time he has been given the opportunity to have an extended look as an everyday starter and with Nico Hoerner lurking in the Triple-A, Bote will have to come out of the gate strong to maintain his status. Bote is nothing more than a dart throw in deeper NL-Only leagues and is best served for those playing DFS for now.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
